Research in Biomedical Sciences
The department of Biomedical Sciences conducts research
in Neuroscience,
Molecular and Cell Biology and
Infectious Diseases and Immunology. Many
of its neuroscience faculty are involved in studies of pain. These and
other research activities in the department encompass areas classically
associated with oral biology and dentistry, but also extend to
"non-dental" research areas such as visceral pain, molecular and cell
biology of prostate cancer, molecular pathogenesis of Chlamydia, and
regulation of gene expression in the soil bacterium, Bacillus subtilis.
The department also houses important
research resources, including an electron microscopy, two confocal
microscopes and a Typhoon Imager.
